MEET THE PERSON BEHIND THE GUIDE
Guidance from Dr Cheryll Holmes
PhD, PsyD · Psychologist · Marriage and family therapist
Dr Holmes works with individuals and couples facing separation, infidelity and the uncertainty of a marriage in crisis. Her work includes supporting people seeking help when their spouse is not ready to participate.
She created this guide to help you find a steadier starting point: understand what needs attention first, make room to think and choose a manageable next step.
One step at a time. You don’t have to take the next one alone.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A few things you may be wondering.
Is this guide for my situation?
It offers a starting point if you are facing separation, betrayal, emotional distance or uncertainty about your next conversation. You do not need to have decided what will happen to your marriage.
Can I use it without my spouse?
Yes. The calming exercise, reflection prompts and next-24-hours plan can be used on your own. They focus on your next response; they cannot make another person participate or guarantee reconciliation.
Is this a substitute for therapy?
No. This is an educational guide, not an assessment or individualized treatment. If you need care specific to your circumstances, seek support from a qualified professional.
What happens when I download it?
You can download the six-page PDF immediately without providing an email. Email delivery and the optional support series are not available yet.
Grounded in evidence. Honest about its limits.
The guide draws on published research and professional guidance, with clickable sources and clear distinctions between study findings and practical adaptations. It is educational support, not individualized therapy or a promise of reconciliation.
If there are threats, coercive control or violence, prioritize safety. Find safety-planning support. Use a safer device and email account if yours may be monitored.
